In Short Terms
The appropriate location for your website files is the public_html/ directory.
Additional Information
Every cPanel account includes a home directory. This directory is typically what you see when connecting via FTP, SFTP, or SSH using your primary cPanel user credentials.
A new cPanel account, home directory structure appears as follows:
.bash_logout .bash_profile .bashrc .contactemail .cpanel/ etc/ .htpasswds/ mail/ public_ftp/ public_html/ tmp/ www@
Depending on your software, you might not see files and directories that begin with a dot (e.g., .htpasswds). Regardless, exercise caution and never delete or modify these files or directories unless you are fully aware of their purpose.
For uploading your website files, place them into the public_html/ directory.
Understanding Other Files and Directories
All the additional files and directories play essential roles in ensuring the proper functioning of your web hosting and email accounts. As a newcomer to cPanel, it’s advisable to focus solely on the public_html/ directory. By doing so, you’ll avoid unintentionally affecting your hosting account.
