Introduction
The life cycles of (country-code Top-Level Domains) and gTLDs (generic Top-Level Domains) differ slightly. However, for both types, once a domain expires, it will, after a designated period, become available for public registration once more.
⚠️ Important Note
The Halls Group, operating as Halls Hosting, bears no responsibility for any failure to renew domains that have expired. Domain owners must ensure they read and reply to all emails concerning domain ownership and verification.
A ccTLD domain Lifecycle e.g. (.uk .co.uk)
- Upon the conclusion of your domain’s registration term, which can range from 0 to 10 years, the domain will expire.
- Even after your domain expires, it will remain operational for a period of time.
- Your domain will remain active for 30 days before Nominet suspends it.
- Once your domain is suspended, it will cease to function and the associated Halls Hosting invoice will be voided.
- You have an additional 60 days to renew your domain by reaching out to us for assistance.
- Following a 90-day period post-expiration, your domain will be released and become available for public registration. This means that the domain will become available for purchase by anyone.
A gTLD domain Lifecycle e.g. (.com)
- Upon the conclusion of your domain’s registration term, which can range from 0 to 10 years, the domain will expire.
- Once your domain expires, it will no longer function as intended.
- Following expiration, you have roughly 45 days, the grace period, to renew your domain at the standard rate. However, if your Halls Hosting invoice is cancelled after 30 days, you’ll need to reach out to us for assistance.
Subsequent to this period, your domain enters the Redemption phase. Renewing a domain during this phase can be very costly, with fees determined by the registrar, not us.
To renew a domain in Redemption, please contact us to cover the Redemption fee in addition to the domain renewal cost. Note that the Redemption fee can vary, depending on the domain and registrar.
- Following this phase, the domain enters the Pending Delete status and no action can be taken until the domain is officially released.
- Once released by the registry, the domain becomes open for registration to the general public. This means that the domain will become available for purchase by anyone.
